What Scopey collects, who can see it, and how to delete it.
Placeholder, not legal text
The official Privacy Policy will be published here before general deployment.
What we collect
- Account info: display name, email, role, grade level (optional), school (optional)
- Scans: images you capture or upload, plus recognition results
- Activity: scans, saved discoveries, challenge attempts, badges earned
What we don't collect
- Precise device location without explicit action
- Contacts, address book, or SMS content
- Advertising identifiers
- Data from third-party sites you visit
Who sees your scans
Your scan photos are private to your account. Photo storage only lets the account that uploaded a photo open it. Your saved discoveries are private too.
To identify a specimen, the photo is sent through a short-lived private link to Google Lens (using the Serper search service) and to Anthropic's Claude. Your photo is not made public, and it is not posted to iNaturalist or any other public site.
If you join a class, your teacher can see your challenge progress, what your challenge scans were identified as, and your scan and badge counts. Your teacher can't open your scan photos.
When you hand in a class quiz, observation or investigation, your teacher sees that work so they can score it: your answers and any photos you added to it. Those photos are shared only with that class's teacher.
Under-13 users
During setup, users under 13 are asked to confirm that a parent, guardian or teacher has said it's okay to use Scopey. This answer is self-reported. In classroom deployments, the educator is responsible for making sure parental consent has been obtained under COPPA and any applicable state or district policies. We collect the minimum data needed for the educational experience.
Data retention and deletion
You can delete individual scans from your history. To request deletion of your entire account, contact Jeremake Innovations.
Third-party services
Identification uses Google Lens (a visual search, reached through the Serper search service) to find similar images, and Claude, an AI made by Anthropic, to check that the photo shows a microscope specimen and to pick the closest match. Each photo reaches these services through a short-lived private link and is not made public . We use Supabase for storage and authentication and Vercel for hosting.
